Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States surpassing breast, prostate, lung and colon cancers combined! One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. The good news is that a vast majority of these are basal cell and squamous cell skin cancers that can be cured if detected early.
Moles and skin cancers can develop in any skin type. Although a skin cancer screening may seem scary, we will facilitate ease during this exam. With experience and confidence in using a dermatoscope (a special magnifying device), identification of specific moles and lesions on the skin improves to 85% accuracy compared with the naked eye. This is incredibly useful in differentiating normal moles from abnormal, can prevent unnecessary biopsies, and allows early detection and treatment for spots that are unhealthy.
Whether it's Mohs micrographic surgery, topical immunotherapy or radiation treatment, we will discuss all the options and recommend therapies based on the location and type of skin cancer you have.
